As part of the meeting of young talents and leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) held in the East Kazakhstan Region, the “SCO Youth Dialogue” forum was organized. The forum was attended by Kairat Kambarov, Chairman of the Committee for Youth and Family Affairs of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Yerbol Nurgaliyev, Deputy Akim of East Kazakhstan Region; and Mr. Jiao Huaixin, Advisor to the Department of Administrative and Legal Affairs of the SCO Secretariat.
The forum program consisted of two panel sessions.
The first session focused on youth policy, where leading practices of SCO member states were discussed. In his remarks, Kairat Kambarov highlighted Kazakhstan’s contribution to the formation and development of the SCO as an influential international organization and emphasized that cooperation within the SCO remains one of the key priorities of Kazakhstan’s foreign policy.
The main topic of the second panel session was drug prevention. Kazakhstan’s experience in this sphere was presented by the “Esbol Qory” Public Foundation, which is part of the UNODC Regional Youth Network. The foundation introduced “MERGEN”, an information system that identifies and blocks viral drug-related content on the internet. Thanks to this system, more than 4,000 online resources have been detected and blocked within Kazakhstan.
As a reminder, the first meeting of SCO young talents and leaders is currently taking place in the East Kazakhstan Region, with the participation of delegations from SCO member states. This initiative is being implemented by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The event continues the agreements reached at the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting held on 4 July 2024 in Astana, where President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the importance of unity and collective strength in today’s global environment.
